Here are the results for the experiment! Below is the lyrics of each song, the writer's analysis of their work, and then my analysis of their work. By request of some of the writers, I will keep all of the names anonymous.
Songwriter#1: "Worry"
Just a worry Just a worry Just a worry Just a worry Getting’ paid by the hour, make it quick, sucha hurry Buddin up like a flower, spread my wings, hope for glory Man I worry Man I worry Man I worry Man I worry Minutes tick away, slippin like gravity Future so sweet you’d think I had a cavity Sittin here ponderin, mad money launderin Time made my struggle man wish I had a double Arti-chokes, layer by layer I’m just so like a football player Not makin’ sense, mamas getting nervous Papa’s comin’ home, man fuck this service Just a worry Just a worry Just a worry Just a worry Getting’ paid by the hour, make it quick, sucha hurry Buddin up like a flower, spread my wings, hope for glory Man I worry Man I worry Man I worry Man I worry Lookin back on my struggle, now see its all a blur I know I only lied, but she said it wasen’t her Life is just a jam, clouded by my ego Time to write a lyric and eat this burrito Yum. Just a worry Just a worry Just a worry Just a worry Got paid by the hour, made it quick, such a hurry Was a worry Was a worry Was a worry Was a worry Now I plead my guilt and conform to the jury. |
The Writer's Analysis:
"The song represents the constant mental struggle that teens have everyday thinking about the future, relationships and the frequent pressure to succeed and conform to society. The reality if you worry your entire life and never live life like you want you end up making materialistic designs that lead to punishment. If you keep your mind in check and tell yourself it's only a worry and live life to it's fullest you'll never regret anything. You can never be so busy trying to make a living that you forget to make a life." |
Songwriter#2: "Dave Grohl"
Studying for my psych test Is giving me a head ache The truth is I really don’t Want to partake In the AP test I’m taking tomorrow But If I perform poorly It’s not a real problem I’m so bored of school Really, the subjects aren’t cool And if you ask me what I learned This afternooooooon I won’t be able to tell you Cuz I’m a baffon Yea! Hey! I have no self control My grades are slipping And I wanna be like Dave Grohl Yea! Ho! Dada de doe! My grades are slipping And I wanna be like Dave Grohl In the morning When I wake up I walk from my room To the kitchen And In the morning When I get to the kitchen I tell my mom I don’t wanna go! I’m so bored of school Really, the subjects aren’t cool And if you ask me what I learned This afternooooooon I won’t be able to tell you Cuz I’m a baffoon Yea! Hey! I have no self control My grades are slipping And I wanna be like Dave Grohl |
The Writer's Analysis:
"This song is about about my inability to study for my AP test that I have to take tomorrow, as well as my dislike for school right now and all the stresses that come with it. I guess the deeper meaning is that I'm ready to move on with my life and that I aspire to look like Dave Grohl, the lead singer of The Foo Fighters." |
Songwriter#3: "taxi"
Watching the traffic pass me by, as I sit alone Seems like the world is moving as I stay still Unsure how to change but I hope I will If only someone had told me, I wish I had known I was in the dark for so long how do I even go on? Clothes in a bag, hope in my head Walk out the front door, don’t look back and with the past behind me, I fled Far Away, don’t know where I just know I’m going to get there A blur of yellow, the smell of leather Taxi, take me somewhere better Where the air is cleaner and the words are deeper The sky is bluer and the feelings are truer. Taxi, just take me away from here. New life, new heights, longer days, shorter nights Full tank, open road Life is no longer a fight Still alone but with a lighter load Take me away, Taxi |
The Writer's Analysis:
"For this song, nothing specific really inspired me to write it, but I tried to make the topic unclear because I think a lot of people feel those emotions in more than one type of situation. It's just about feeling stuck in a place and wanting to do bigger things with your life." |
Songwriter#4: "Always On My Mind"
Every day you're always on my mind, Every minute I can see your eyes. You're the reason that I smile, You're what makes my life worthwhile. I cannot wait to see you, Every day when you're on my mind. Your warm safe hugs make me feel like I might get by You are always on my mind, I cannot imagine loving someone else like I love you, you're perfect, you are so beautiful, I don't think of anyone else so much trust me when I say, You're always on my mind. Every day you're all I think about, I love you there isn't any doubt. All I want is to be your prince, make things better with a single kiss. Your brown eyes, your soft black hair, Your pretty smile, the way you laugh, Are all things I can't live without out. |
The Writer's Analysis:
"When I was writing this song, I clearly had my girlfriend in mind. I spent a lot of time thinking about conversations I've had with her, and things I had said to her. One of my favorite conversations was actually from Facebook, where I told her how much I thought about her on long car rides to colleges, how she was "always on my mind." That was how the title came about, and I think that the majority of the song lyrics actually came from that conversation (which I looked back to so I could find some good stuff to add to the lyrics)." |
Songwriter#5: "Two Hours"
she stands up and paces he mumbles her name slowly and patiently and deeply the same the feelings diverge into the center of two beings both knowing but neither saying you us him her where do the turns occur? stranger to stranger lover to friend all of it starts and all of it ends a fort made of blankets duct tape as support eyes to eyes nose to nose eyes the music shatters the walls but to them only silence a long drive into darkness no money to pay paperweight holds the air in place both knowing but neither saying the opposite now an end to a beginning an end to it all you us him her where do the turns occur? stranger to stranger lover to friend all of it starts and all of it ends |
The Writer's Analysis"
"For this song, in my mind I thought about how most songs are about relationships. So I decided to give it a shot and write about relationships and see what I could come up with. Some of the song is inspired by memories, some of it I just made up in my head." |
